    Wetlands vulnerability assessment informs irrigation buffer design

    VIMBS is applying catchment hydrology and wetland sensitivity mapping to identify where irrigation development must respect buffer zones, seasonal saturation and downstream ecological demand. The work protects both the water source and the long-term viability of the schemes that depend on it.

    Urban water governance and peri-urban irrigation on the agenda

    As cities expand into former agricultural land, VIMBS is exploring how peri-urban irrigation, treated wastewater reuse and integrated water resource planning can keep food production viable while meeting municipal water-quality and public-health obligations.

    VIMBS is advising on blended public-private partnership models that combine government land and water rights with private capital, European technology and NGO smallholder support to deliver bankable, climate-resilient irrigation schemes.
